UA Recruit is a mobile application that is designed for the sole purpose of motivating athletes to be the best that they can be. Through support from friends, family, and even professional athletes we hope to engage consumers into performing athletic activities that they currently engage in, or are capable of. The thought behind this is the rising levels of inactiveness in our country and the amount of revenue these consumers could provide if they became active. Users are encouraged to participate in challenges and earn Under Armour incentives with the end goal of being the best athlete they can be. Under Armour will profit from the increased product exposure, social engagement, and product sales through this application and it’s corresponding micro site/Facebook application.

They are watching. Can you feel their eyes, piercing? Sizing you up. The dust of the pack of thousands has cleared. 50, that’s all of us that are left. We stand at the ready, side by side. Then a voice echoes in the empty battleground, the soil still churned from the past casualties. “Do what needs to be done to claim your spot.” As I take one step forward, my feet feel heavy. “Get ready, guys we got this!” “ We’ve made it this far, there’s no stopping!” Tide Point, it is just over the horizon, but at dusk it seems impossibly far. How will I know I’m going the right way? Competitors shoot out in every direction. I keep my eyes fixed forward, stay the course. It must be this way. In the dark, I suddenly become aware of the whispers, “great work”, “love it” “I wish I’d thought of that first”. When I think I can’t go any longer, push any harder, the whispers keep me going. Persist. As dawn falls, I can see the figures more clearly. Allies, telling each other “ just try, it’s a start.” With Matt Somma, marketing makes sense. The social game will change with Maggie Chang. Adding undeniably the best vision is Daniel Kosmala. Gear up for Matt Rosenman’s graphics. So well done and so inspiring. I took this commercial and wanted to make a graphic relating to it, however I couldn’t decide on which style to go with so I created two. My idea was to take Kemba Walker hitting the game-winner for UConn in the NCAA tournament and put that image into a classic NYC street basketball court. Any young kid shooting baskets outside always simulates hitting the game winner. Kemba made that a reality.

Both graphics use a quote by Kemba from the commercial, as well as the UA slogan “Are you from here?”

Still can’t believe it. Alright, time to snap out of it...

MY IDEA FOR UNDER ARMOUR

Any of you marketing experts out there, feel free to jump in here. The supplement industry is huge right now and I think it’s something that UA could really flourish in. From buying supplements often, I can tell you that there is big money in the industry- the products are very cheap to manufacture yet sell for generous prices. I know UA is known for their sports apparel, but this is another level of sports training that is tough to ignore.

Years back, we saw Everlast dominate the sporting (as well as fitness) industry. When boxing was at its peak, as was Everlast. When MMA began to flourish, Everlast stepped in and is now a huge manufacturer of the gloves. Now on the market you will find Everlast protein bars and supplements and from what I can tell, they are selling.

Even Gatorade, the most widely consumed sports drink, has stepped into the supplement game. You won’t find protein powders or vitamins from them (yet), but with their G3 series they now offer protein drinks which are really doing well.

The photo I designed above is how I envision a protein powder offered by Under Armour. I envision the label as black and white and fairly simple, as UA is known for their sleek, clean designs. Having everything in black and white but the flavor in color really makes it clear what flavor is being offered, which frankly can get really annoying on labels when it is tough to find. In the background you will see an enlarged UA logo which wraps around the container and then repeats itself very cleanly. The logo works extremely well as a clean background without overpowering the text, while at the same time being unique and making it a recognizable package.

Athlete endorsements are huge, and having Under Armour sponsored athletes endorse these products would do wonders. We may even be able to take it a step further and have different products that are developed with the help of athletes and/or named after them (or at least have them on the label). Since UA has a wide range of well-respected and admired athletes representing them, I think it could really help the push into the supplement industry.
